Part 1 Evidence

Answer the following questions by inputting your answers in the answer box in Etudes.

1. Give an example from the article of any of the types of evidence described in chapters 8 and 9 of Asking the Right Questions (intuition, personal experience, testimonial, appeal to authority, personal observation, research study, case examples, analogies). Identify the text from the article and what type of evidence it is.

2. Repeat #1 with a DIFFERENT type of evidence.

3. Repeat #1 with a DIFFERENT type of evidence.

Part 2 Excel Projects 1 and 3 Creating and Formatting

This is Exercise 8, page E-6 in Excel Project 1 and Exercise 10 on page E14 in Dozer's Quintessential Guide to Computer Literacy (slightly modified).

1. Start Excel. Notice the name box, formula bar, worksheet area with cells, worksheet frame and worksheet tabs.
2. Make sure the active cell is A1.
3. Type the worksheet title: Conner Construction Co. Expense Summary
4. Press Enter or click the Enter button.
5. Make A3 the active cell.
6. Enter the following items (one per row): Drywall, Lumber, Paint
7. Make B2 the active cell and enter the column label JAN
8. Point to the fill handle at the lower right corner of cell B2 and drag to the right to make labels for FEB, MAR and APR
9. Enter the numbers for each category as shown in the table below:

Lumber 3569 2563 1254 6321

10. Insert a row between Lumber and Paint.
11. Enter the row heading Nails
12. Enter the data: 25 32 42 13
13. Change the January lumber expense to 2354
14. Edit the title to remove the Co.
15. Below the data, enter the following, substituting in your name: By <your name>
16. Italicize what you just typed.
17. In cell F2, enter the column label AVERAGE
18. Center the title across columns A through F
19. Apply a fill color to the title. Change the text color so the text displays nicely.
20. Make the title font larger.
21. Apply a border around the worksheet data area (not the by row or title)
22. Right-align the column labels over the numbers.
23. Double-click the worksheet tab and rename it COSCI58.
24. Print preview the worksheet.
25. Save the worksheet as today's date. We will work with this again in the next class meeting.
26. Upload to Etudes Assignments, Tests and Surveys.
