Part 1 Study Questions (15 points)

Answer the following questions from Chapter 10 "Multimedia and the Web" in a document named Task9study

1. (2 points) Most small to medium size businesses pay for another company to setup their online store. Search the Internet for e-commerce hosting plans. Choose a plan and describe the monthly fee, setup fee and transaction fees. Give the URL of the plan.

2. What is the difference between the contents of the HTML file and what you see in the browser? Give an example.

3. What are ActiveX controls used for?

4. Microsoft FrontPage (now called Enterprise Web) and Macromedia Dreamweaver are 2 of the most popular web authoring programs. Go to www.download.com and find another web authoring program. These programs are listed under the Developer Tools category. What is the name of the program, average user rating and cost?

5. Programs called scripts, can be imbedded into an HTML document and run. Name two "script" programming languages.

6. Name a graphics software program you can use to create or edit bitmap (bmp) images.

7. Name a common Web animation program used today

8. What is a thumbnail image?

9. How is waveform audio storage (.wav) different from MP3 (.mp3)?

10. Digital alteration of photos can be used for misleading purposes. Do an internet search to find a web page that talks about photo tampering. What is the URL and what is discussed?

11. How can you reduce the size of a high resolution image so it can be used on a web page?

12. What is a storyboard and what is it used for?

13. Why are computer programming skills necessary to be a web site developer?

14. Name 2 video formats used on the web.

Part 2 PowerPoint on the Web (15 points)

Start a new presentation in PowerPoint.

Create a 4 slide presentation on image (graphics) formats. Use information from the textbook starting on page 432 in Understanding Computers and additional information you find on the Web. Make a title slide and 3 content slides. Include your name on the title slide. Use the techniques from the PowerPoint Chapters in Office 2007.

Save the presentation in a format that can be published on the Web as a single file, .mht. In PowerPoint 2007, click the Office Button at the top left, then Save As and Other Formats. If you are using Office 2003 go to the File Menu and Save as Web Page. Under Save as type, select Single-file web page (*.mht). This is a special Microsoft format that puts all of the text and graphical information into one file. Otherwise, the presentation is saved as a collection of files and folders. Name the file Task9web.
