CO INFO1 Task #10 Assignment: Database

Reading:

• Chapter 14 "Databases and Database Management Systems" in Understanding Computers.

In this assignment you will:

• Read and follow the steps in Access Chapter 1 to create the JSP Recruiters database
• Create a database for a hockey team store.
• Answer multiple choice quiz questions on Chapter 14

Part 1: Access Chapter 1

Read Access Chapter 1 and follow the hands on instructions to create the JSP Recruiters database. The database should contain 2 tables, a report and a form.

If you do not have Access, you can download and install the free OpenOffice program from Openoffice.org and use that database called Base. The interface is a little different for OpenOffice Base. Click the link to open a Word document containing instructions to work through the chapter with Base. This is a large document, so be patient: BaseChapter1.doc

Upload the JSP Recruiters database. Make sure you keep it to use for Task 11.

Part 2 Creating an Access Database 20 points

Do In the Lab 2: Creating the Hockey Fan Zone Database on page AC 68.

Create a new database named Task10 using Microsoft Access (or OpenOffice Base). Make sure your database includes the following:

• Two tables with a common field.
• A primary key field in each table.
• A form showing the items (does not need to be a split form or subform)
• The Inventory Status Report

Upload the Task10 database file to Tasks, Tests and Surveys. Keep it for use in Task 11.
