CSIT58 0956 Participation Credit 10/10: Values and Descriptive Assumptions

Part 1 Values Discussion (5 points)

The Internet and other technologies like camera phones and messaging have made cheating in college easier than ever. You will examine this in a discussion. You may work in a group of up to 3 people. Remember to put the names of all of the students in your group at the end of your discussion post.

Read "EDITORIAL - Chastising Cheaters" at http://media.www.thedmonline.com/media/storage/paper876/news/2005/02/02/Opinion/Editorial.Chastising.Cheaters-1591789.shtml

For a contrasting view, read "How to Cheat in School" at http://www.rajuabju.com/literature/how_to_cheat.htm

1. Search for a web page containing an argument that supports or contradicts one of these positions (or another position not listed above). It must be a page that has not been posted already by another student. Try to find one with a printer friendly link so it is easy to copy and paste.

2. (1 point) Create a New Topic in the Values discussion. Put the title of the web page in the subject line so other students can quickly see it.

3. (1 point) In the message text box, state the author's conclusion and press Enter twice

4. (1 point) Copy and paste the text of the argument into your message text box. Drag to highlight the text. Copy the text in one of the following three ways; click Edit and Copy in the menu bar, right click the text and choose Copy, or press Ctrl+C from the keyboard. It is easier to highlight and copy in a printer friendly view if the page provides that option. Click in the message text box and paste the text in one of the following three ways: click Edit and Paste in the menu bar, right-click and choose Paste, or press Ctrl+V from the keyboard.

5. (2 points) Read another student's topic. Reply describing at least 2 value(s) are held by the author of their argument. Use the links below to find values that apply. Do not just use values from a reply another student has already posted. Either find other values that you think the other student missed or reply to a different student's post.
