Part 2 Decision Worksheet (15 points)
A decision table (or matrix) can be beneficial for resolving important issues in your life. It forces you to analyze and logically determine a course of action. The Microsoft Office web site has templates (pre-made documents) for decision making and for many other purposes. In this part of the assignment, you will download a template about choosing a job and modify it to match your preferences.
If you have Office 2007:
Start Excel and select the New option of the Office menu.
In the Template pane at the top of the dialog box, type decision. Then click the arrow to search.
A list of templates for decision making appears. Select Job Decision Matrix. Accept the license agreement to open the workbook.
If you have Office 2003:
Log into Etudes and click Resources. Download Job Decision Matrix to your computer and open it.
All:
Answer questions 1, 4 and 5 on Sheet2 in the workbook. Number your answers.
1. (2 points) Examine the worksheet data, formula and notes to understand how it works. What is the most important factor to the author of this worksheet? How do you know?
2. (4 points) Change the category weights (Cat Wt) to match your preferences and values.
3. (4 points) Add a factor that is important to you and adjust the Weight column for this new factor and for the changes you made in #3. Remember, the numbers in the Weight column have to add up to the corresponding category weight. Make up scores for this factor for each company in the blue columns (the author calls it green, looks blue to me).
4. (4 points) Think of a small business you would consider starting. Make up a name for it and put it at the top of the column. Adjust the scores for the small business to be what you would anticipate. For example, I had a mail order business for many years and the Fun score for that was not a 6. It was just my husband and I with a couple of other employees in a warehouse. We didn't see anyone else all day but the postman and UPS man. A restaurant business have very different scores.
On Sheet2, briefly describe the business and why you scored it the way you did.
5. Which option should you pick after your adjustments? Company X, Y, Z or your own business?
Save the workbook and upload it to Tasks, Tests and Surveys.
