CIS1 Late Start Task #3: Software and Word

40 Points Due date: November 11. Ends November 15.

Reading:

Chapter 6 "Application Software" in Understanding Computers.
Word Chapter 1 "Creating and Editing a Word Document" in the Office 2007 textbook. Read in front of the computer so you can practice the steps shown in the chapter.

In this assignment you will:

Create a flyer in Word about Office Suites
Answer multiple choice quiz questions on Chapter 6

Log in to Etudes and click the link for Tasks, Tests and Surveys. Click Task 3 and begin the assignment. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the assignment and quiz. Once you click Finish there is no way to go back and change it. If you realize you have made an error you need to email me about it. You may complete the parts of the assignment in any order. You can enter and exit as you wish.

Part 1 Word Flyer (20 points)

The Microsoft Office Suite is the standard but it is very expensive for home use. Go to http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/6-free-office-suites-that-are-not-microsoft/ and look at the list of free office suites.

Choose one and create a flyer about it. Use the techniques from Word Chapter 1 in the Office 2007 textbook. Save as Task3

Grading Rubric:

Points	Feature
6	Promote the free office suite in the flyer. Give the name of the suite and the name of the organization distributing it. Describe the programs included, and give a URL for downloading it. Include your name in the flyer as the contact person for information and training. Do not just copy/paste information directly from a web page without redesigning or rewording to create your document.
2	At least 2 different fonts
2	At least 2 different font sizes
2	Use 2 different font styles like Bold, Underline, Italics, Color.
1	Add a page border
2	Use Center and Left Alignment
2	At least one graphic that relates to the topic
1	Size the text and graphic(s) to fill up the page, but don't make it more than one page. A flyer should be able to hang on a board or telephone pole. View the flyer in Print Preview to check. If it goes to two pages, make your picture smaller, delete blank lines, or make fonts smaller. Don't make everything so small that there is a lot of blank space on the single page.
2	No spelling or grammar errors

Upload Task3.doc through Tasks, Tests and Surveys in Etudes.

Part 2: Application Software Quiz (20 points)

Take a 20 question multiple choice quiz on Chapter 6 in Understanding Computers. You can only take the quiz once but there is no time limit.
